" Pour out some liquor and I reminisce, cause through the drama I can always depend on my mama And when it seems that I'm hopeless You say the words that can get me back in focus When I was sick as a little kid To keep me happy there's no limit to the things you did And all my childhood memories Are full of all the sweet things you did for me And even though I act crazy I gotta thank the Lord that you made me There are no words that can express how I feel You never kept a secret, always stayed real And I appreciate, how you raised me And all the extra love that you gave me " -Tupac "Dear Mama"
It's Mothers Day folks, and that means more than any other day of the year it's time to reflect on all of the blessings that our mothers have provided us. I'm not going to get too sappy or personal on this post but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I owe everything in this world to my absolute angel of a mother and love her more than words can express. I thought that I would use this blog post to highlight some of my favorite mom moments in sports.
First up of course: Wanda Durant - 'THE REAL MVP'
Kevin Durant's acceptance speech for the 2014 NBA MVP. An absolute classic. KD is a class act and as much as I love to root against him over the years, I have nothing but respect and admiration for him as a man and basketball player! Phenomenal speech by KD speaking vulnerably about his unlikely journey to the league and honoring his awesome mom!
Next up: Jolinda Wade
The mother of Miami-Wade County's own king, Dwyane Wade, Jolinda through the years has shared her story of battling substance abuse and her path toward redemption in faith. Dwyane (the greatest 2-guard in the history of the game) even bought her a church in Chicago!
And then we have Kultida Woods!
The first generation Asian immigrant mother of Eldrick Tont Woods (GOAT), Kultida and her husband raised Tiger extremely tightly, instilling a strong work ethic and low tolerance for nonsense. She stood by Tiger's side during his most difficult hours, when everyone seemed eager to dogpile onto his public grave. Seeing her embrace Tiger after his recent return to glory in Augusta was an all-time great mom-sports moment.
Cheers to all of the amazing mothers out there for everything you do! We literally would not be here without you!
